The Major Cause of Arthritis and How to Relieve It

The problems associated with arthritis can largely be avoided if people take more notice of prevention rather than seeking a cure. There is no relief if the joints affected are inflamed but what causes that condition is usually a health issue and diet is a big part of it. Women are often major sufferers because they provide the meals for their families. These usually include the very substances they need to avoid.

A healthy joint is one that moves freely with no restrictions. The bones glide over one another because of the articular cartilage that buffers the bony surface. This is lubricated by synovial fluid which is rather thick and is absorbed by the cartilage when the joint is at rest. When flexed into movement the fluid is squeezed out of it to again do its job.

The simplest way of explaining this is to think of a hinge that is oiled. If it rusts up one must replace the oil to free it again. But if it is corroded there is no way of fixing it.

Joints are hinges and when damaged, either by a break or a simple knock, they leak the synovial fluid out and it is replaced by substances that pass through the blood barrier. These include refined foods, such as ground flour, rice, or cornflour. Sugar also plays a part.

The beat way to preserve the joints is to protect them when playing sports and to seek immediate treatment for injuries. After that it is a case of good diet and constant awareness of what brings on arthritis and the food we need to avoid in order to prevent it. As with any medical condition there are always others causes and effects so there can be no guarantees.

Living With Chronic Pain: How I Got My Life Back

During one of the most stressful years of my life, while I was battling Type II Diabetes, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.

Before I had visited the Rheumatologist, I thought it was just joint ailments and a touch of arthritis, since I was entering my 40’s and thought it was to be expected. However, when the pain of violent electric shocks began to affect every part of my body, I sought the help of a professional. It was becoming a debilitating condition that was affecting my personal and professional life.

For several years after I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I had been prescribed the following:

  1. Gabapentin
  2. Cmybalta
  3. Piroxicam
  4. Lyrica
  5. Tramadol
  6. Baclofen
  7. Steroid shots in the neck and shoulder area

And at one point, I was on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 at the same time.

The pain was still present and the side affects of the medications made my brain so foggy, I could hardly concentrate at work, affecting my livelihood and income.

I was on all of these pills and still in excruciating pain. Why? What was the point? For a while, I had my daughter to help with the chores and help me dress, but after my daughter moved out, I hired a nurse to help me dress and bathe and a professional cleaning service to help with the chores.

Shortly after the last steroid shot, I made a bold decision to stop ALL of the medications. Nothing was working and my quality of life was horrible. My Rheumatologist was not happy to say the least.

I slowly weened myself off of the medicines and sought the help of a Holistic doctor I had heard so much about. Here is where I learned how to use spices to heal my body and how to live a chemical-free life on an organic diet.

I thought I was eating healthy, but I was not. I thought that having instant oatmeal for breakfast was good for me, and a lean cuisine or healthy choice frozen entrée for lunch was healthy for the body. Dinner was usually a Zaxby’s salad drenched in fattening dressings. I was also using saccharin sweeteners in my oatmeal, coffee and non-sugar cereals. She cringed when I told her that last one. Ha!

I learned a lot from her about chemicals in processed and frozen foods, and began only eating foods that I made from scratch with fresh ingredients, using the spice blends that were healing for high sugars and inflammation. Some of the spices are:

  • Turmeric
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Ground Clove
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Curry powder
  • Oregano

I also no longer eat red meat and limit starches altogether, unless it is ‘cheat day’ only one item allowed – then I can’t wait to have a sandwich with bread. Yummm! J

She also instructed me to cook everything in a wok using organic coconut oil. Most of my lunches are either beans or a delicious salad with Annies organic dressing. For dinner, I am usually cooking up Asian cuisines with boneless and skinless chicken, shrimp, or scallops, veggie blends, Thai jasmine rice or Asian rice noodles, and yummy sauces.

I also learned foods that make you ‘feel’ full, such as beans, any kind, black, kidney, etc. and cook those with the spice blend as well. I find that sautéed kale (with coconut oil and spice blend) also fills me up!

I also found comfort in CBD oil, which helped with some of the chronic pain, and allowed me to restart my exercise routine, which I sorely missed for over four years. Having a home gym makes it easy to jump on anytime and my Fitbit motivates me by logging my steps and workouts, and cheering me on when I complete personal goals.

In addition, I have found comfort in essential oil blends that decrease my anxiety, appetite and relieve pain. I have a whole shelf of authentic oils to treat almost everything!

Today, I am still prescription drug-free and have lost over 30 lbs. I still have pain, but it is much less severe and does not cripple me in my personal and professional life. And although managing all of these methods is a full-time job in itself, it’s worth it for me.

My hope is that this article will help inspire someone to explore other options when treating chronic disorders. You just never know what may help.

Use it Or Lose It – Is Arthritis Making You Feel 90 Before Your Time?

Madonna turned 50 and is still strutting her stuff, thinking nothing of doing the splits during her routine. Who would guess she reached the half-century mark?

This observation supports the argument that if you use it, you won’t necessarily lose it. Unfortunately most of us don’t have the flexible joints that Madonna has. As we age, most of us feel old before our time because of the aches and pains that often develop into arthritis, which can be painful and debilitating.

Arthritis is the single biggest cause of disability caused by the body mistakenly attacking healthy joints and tissues. In the United States alone, it is estimated that between 30 and 60 million people suffer from arthritis.

Osteoarthritis vs rheumatoid arthritis-what’s the difference?

The most prevalent forms of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Of the two, osteoarthritis is by far the most common form of arthritis, usually effecting people over the age of 50, with some 10 per cent of those over 60 being affected.

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease, thought to be the result of wear and tear on the cartilage of affected joints over many years. Repeated injuries and/or surgeries are also considered to be contributing factors to this form of arthritis.

When you have osteoarthritis you face the loss of the protective surface of cartilage over the ends of your bones. This can lead to the growth of tiny bone ‘spurs’, which grate together on movement, causing pain and leading to swelling of the joint, most easily seen in the joints at the ends of the fingers and in the knees. As well as these joints, the hips, base of the thumbs and the spine are commonly affected.

Osteoarthritis of the fingers is more common in women, and is particularly likely to run in families. Obesity is strongly linked to osteoarthritis of the knee and to a lesser extent of the hip.

Rheumatoid arthritis is warm to the touch

Rheumatoid arthritis, a painful, inflammatory type of arthritis affecting almost 400,000 people in the UK, occurs when the body’s immune system attacks itself.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a common type of chronic arthritis where there is much swelling and pain in both small and large joints. The hands, especially the large knuckle joints, are most commonly affected.

The joint swelling, which is often red and warm to the touch, is due to considerable inflammation of the synovium, a thin layer of tissue surrounding many joints, responsible for the production of the lubricating synovial fluid. In rheumatoid arthritis much of the swelling is due to an increase in this fluid.

Possible triggers are infections, food allergies and genetic factors. About 1 per cent of the population world-wide suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, with women being three times more likely than men to suffer. The most common age of onset is in the forties, with it being more likely to start in the winter months.

Ways to control arthritis pain

Although there is no cure for osteoarthritis, there are ways to control or lessen the pain and reduce the degree of disability.

Most people will be prescribed a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen, which will temporarily mask the pain of arthritis, without addressing the root cause of it.

Recent studies have shown encouraging evidence that glucosamine and chondroitin supplements can provide long-term help with treating osteoarthritis, the most prevalent type of wear-and-tear arthritis. However, more research must be completed to confirm the findings.

There are other things you can do to minimize the progression and improve symptoms of osteoarthritis. Simple things like weight control, exercise and modifications to your diet can help in the treatment of arthritic problems.

Perhaps Madonna should be our poster child for the arthritis society.

John Grisham’s "The King Of Torts" And The Process Server

The King of Torts

This novel focuses on the struggle of Jarrett Clay Carter II as a lowly and poorly paid lawyer at the Office of the Public Defender (OPD). He dreams of making it big someday but the break, so to speak, are so not forthcoming. He represents clients who are accused of a criminal offense but are not capable of paying for legal services.

He reluctantly takes on the case of Tequila Watson, a man accused of a random street killing. Unknown to Clay Carter at that time, the case would catapult him to the biggest break he could ever imagine. A pharmaceutical conspiracy was underway and Tequila Watson is just one of the human guinea pigs for the drug “Tarvan.” The drug supposedly aids drug addicts towards recovery but it has a major flaw, in 10% of its patients, the drug leads to violent random killings. To keep everything under wraps, the manufacturer of the drug, employs Clay Carter, through the help of Max Pace. Clay Carter, resigned as counsel for Tequila Watson, walked out of his job at Public Defender’s Office, took some of his trusted colleagues at OPD and set up his own law firm. Clay Carter now became the counsel for the mysterious pharmaceutical company. They identified the victims of the Tarvan-induced “random killings” and paid the heirs of the victim off with large settlements.

Clay Carter soon took on the case of another drug, “Dyloft”, a potent anti-inflammatory drug used by people with acute arthritis. However, as effective it is in curbing the pain, it causes bladder tumors. This case boosted him to launch a new career in Mass Tort Law. He started to rake in millions of dollars in fees. His meteoric rise to fame and fortune earned him the title of the newest King of Tort.

The Rise To and Fall From Fame And The Process Server

Surprise is an element Clay Carter relied on heavily on his filing of the Dyloft case. Simultaneous with his filing in the courts, a process server had tendered a copy of the complaint to the defendant company, Ackerman Labs. In this kind of cases wherein the time element is part of the strategy, a competent, effective and trustworthy process server is the best person to have in the team.

As every comet with its meteoric rise to stardom and its spectacular atmospheric display, it is fleeting. And at some point it will eventually drop somewhere. Clay Carter in the short span of a few months had acquired a luxurious house in prominent part of the town, a villa somewhere in the French Isles, a sporty black Porsche Carrera, a private Gulfstream jet, a yacht, hundred of millions in fees.

In a series of wrong decisions, Clay Carter had subjected himself to a massive malpractice lawsuit. He settled the thousands of mass tort cases of Dyloft he had with Ackerman Labs in swiftly at a small amount per client. Although he received millions of dollars on fees, the individual clients received a paltry sum. Since all these were done in record time, he was not able to evaluate thoroughly the effects of the drug to each and every client.

With all of Clay Carter’s resources, there is a layer of protective bubble around him. With a jet and a yacht on hand, he is considered a flight risk. Taking these in mind, the process server who served Clay Carter with his career-ending malpractice lawsuit was able to penetrate the security and was able to time his visit to give it to him personally.

It is kind of ironic if not fitting that in this novel, the unrecognized constant is a process server who had done his job well.

Ophthalmologists and Optometrists Are Different

Optometrists provide vision care services, and prescribe vision aids to the eye patients. They provide vision services such as eye examination, and can help treat diseases like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. They prescribe eyeglasses, and contact lenses. They can also help in diagnosing many eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataract, macular degeneration, etc. optometrists are not physicians, but they can prescribe medicines in some places.

Ophthalmologists are physicians, and they provide complete eye care services. They provide vision services, such as eye examination, and eye care for eye diseases. Many eye diseases are related to diabetes, and arthritis. Ophthalmologists help you treat such eye diseases. The ophthalmologists can prescribe glasses, and contact lenses. The first difference between an ophthalmologist and optometrist is about the knowledge they have in eye care, and vision care. Ophthalmologists are more about diagnosis, and treatment of eye diseases. Optometrists are more about eye examination, and prescribing glasses, and contact lenses.

Vision care services by optometrists:

1. General vision services such as eye examination

2. Diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases

3. Prescribing medicines for eye diseases

4. Prevention of injury

5. Vision correction

6. Pre and post operative care for patients requiring surgery

Optometrists prescribe medicines, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, eyeglasses, and contact lenses. They can provide counselling, if the patient requires surgery because of an eye disease. Ophthalmologists receive more training to diagnose, and treat many complicated diseases, and eye conditions. In many cases, it is found the ophthalmologists, and optometrists are working together to treat patients.

The J Optom welcomes the submission of original manuscripts and reviews describing clinical and experimental research in the field of Optometry, Ophthalmic Optics, Ocular Surface and Basic and Applied Visual Science in general; research on Instruments and Techniques, Reports of Clinical Cases, and clinically relevant laboratory investigations are also welcomed.

Ophthalmologists are trained in providing vision care services such as eye examination, treatment, vision correction, and lens prescription; many of them do not treat vision correction as primary service.

Many times, patients are unable to decide if they should see the optometrist. it is easier to get the optometrist’s appointment, and they are anyway are prescribing eyeglasses to the patients. At times, it is believed the optometrists are more skilled in vision correction services, because they are working with patients on a daily basis. These days the optometrist’s training is more about diagnosing, and treatment of eye related problems, and less about vision correction.

Ways to Spoil Your Aging Dog

As your beloved companion ages, you may find yourself unintentionally spoiling him less. Sure, he was probably a lot more active in his golden years and toys and treats were a necessity, but there are many other ways that you can spoil your dog as he gets older.

Knowing how to spoil your dog can be tricky when they aren’t as active as they used to be. One solution to that is investing in orthopedic dog goods. Orthopedic dog beds, for example, offer much better support than regular beds and can reduce pain caused by arthritis. Your options aren’t just limited to beds. There are other things such as orthopedic braces and harnesses that can make your dog more comfortable and allow him to be more active. If your dog’s wrist is painful, then get him a wrist brace just like you would for yourself or any other family member. Not only will you have a spoiled dog, but you are also helping him.

Another great idea for spoiling your geriatric dog is by getting them their own set of doggy stairs. Dog stairs can decrease the risk of falls and alleviate pressure on your dog’s joints. There are doggy steps for the car, dog stairs for bed, and even dog stairs for the pool. It doesn’t matter if your four-legged child is large or small; there are a variety of dog steps that will make their elderly years much more comfortable.

Last, but not least, consider scheduling a doggy spa day every once in a while for your pooch. Now and days, there are doggy spas everywhere offering a variety of services including swimming, massages, and the classic pampering. Swimming is not only fun, it also helps promote good muscle tone to support the bones and joints without being as high-impact as walking or running. When swimming, remember to give your dog access to dog stairs in the pool so they can easily enter and exit the pool safely. There are also massages that help ease stiff and sore muscles. If you don’t want to go to a spa, you can also try using essential oils on your dog at home to massage painful areas or as an inhalant to aid with anxiety and stress.

Whether it’s getting dog steps, orthopedic goodies, or scheduling a spa day, it’s easy to spoil your dog while making him happier and more comfortable during old age. Remember, a spoiled dog is a happy dog!

Musculoskeletal Disorders Related To Diabetes May Be Helped With Chiropractic Care

People with diabetes commonly suffer from musculoskeletal disorders. These musculoskeletal conditions may be helped with chiropractic care.

According to a new paper published in the European Journal of Rheumatology, October 2018 patients with diabetes mellitus have an elevated risk for a number of musculoskeletal conditions including: limited joint mobility syndrome, frozen shoulder/adhesive capsulitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, gouty arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

Although chiropractors do not treat diabetes, they commonly treat the musculoskeletal disorders noted above. Most have practitioners would agree that diabetes hinders healing of musculoskeletal injuries. For instance, if a diabetic individual were to fall and sprain their shoulder it would probably take longer for them to heal than a nondiabetic. Likewise, if a person with diabetes was doing a physical job requiring bending at the waist repetitively to pick up objects and strained their lower back the healing time required would be extended.

Since these types of injuries take longer to heal it would be wise for people with diabetes to seek the services of a Doctor of Chiropractic. A chiropractor can meet with the injured patient, perform an examination, obtain x-rays if necessary and provide chiropractic care. Chiropractic care generally consists of gentle, adjustments to spinal and extremity joints. Adjustments are simply movements that a chiropractor performs by hand, instrument or a piece of equipment to realign a patient’s spinal column or joints of the extremities.

Chiropractors have extensive training to examine patients to determine if there are abnormalities such as misalignments or improper movement of areas of the spine or extremities that require treatment. When chiropractic care is added to a treatment regime, patients generally find that pain is improved more quickly and patient’s overall healing time is significantly reduced. In many cases a chiropractor can also determine if there is an underlying weakness to an area of the body such as the neck or the lower back. This is the case, chiropractors are also trained to give patients exercise they can perform at home to minimize the week area so as to lessen chances a recurrence.

Chiropractic care can absolutely be provided without interfering with medical care that a patient may already be receiving. A patient taking medication for diabetes that has been prescribed by their medical physician will continue with their medicine. There will be no contraindication to receive chiropractic treatment.

Doctors of chiropractic, in conjunction with a patient’s medical provider, may be considered for consultation as a safe, non-pharmaceutical, nonsurgical, cost-effective method to treat these extremely common, painful and disabling musculoskeletal disorders.

Trigosamine For Healthy Joints

Trigosamine is a fairly new treatment to the market of supplements which claims to relieve joint pain caused by deterioration. In addition to pain relief, Trigosamine also claims to build and maintain cartilage, the loss of which is often to blame for most pain-related cases.

Trigosamine is produced by the company PatentHealth. PatentHealth came into inception in 2001 and has since become a leader in its industry, focusing on three main principles: Quality, Innovation and Customer Service. PatentHealth is located in Canton, Ohio and is known for producing ‘nutriceuticals’ as well as over-the-counter drugs. Nutriceuticals are medicinal derivatives of food or food/herbal products that are manufactured in natural supplements or medical treatments. Other products brands manufactured by PatentHealth include Apatrim and Fluidjoint.

Trigosamine is a fairly new addition to the world of natural supplements which target joint pain relief. It is the result of combining three specific pre-existing formulas, hyaluronate, chondroitin, and glucosamine. These three substances exist naturally within the human body. Without these three substances, people would not be able to function or move without experiencing extreme degrees of pain. Hyaluronate is the primary lubricant responsible for maintaining super slippery and resilient joints within a human body. It makes it possible for joints to slide smoothly and comfortably over each other. Studies have also shown that synthetic hyaluronate, such as that which is available in Trigosamine, is easily absorbed by the human body and made readily available through the blood stream to joints which lack this important fluid. The two remaining components of Trigosamine, glucosamine and chrondroitin, are both also integral components of bodily cartilage. Glucosamine itself is a precursor required for the production of glycosaminolglycans, which are major components of joint cartilage. Supplemental glucosamine has been shown to help prevent the degeneration of bodily cartilage and has been demonstrated as a successful treatment for arthritis. Furthermore, with the body, the glycosaminolglycans produced from the original glucosamine are then combined with chondroitin to further produce chrondroitin sulfate, which in turn is also an important structural component of cartilage. Chrondroitin sulfate provides much of the cartilage’s ability to resist compression and is therefore an important substance in the maintenance and production of cartilage within the human body. The combination of these two substances within Trigosamine serves to supplement the body’s natural production in the event that it is not producing enough to maintain the cartilage within. By providing the body with additional sources of these two important substances, it can not only repair damaged cartilage, but prevents further injury to it as well by providing the building blocks to produce additional lubrication.

Trigosamine’s effects take several weeks to notice. It is thought that this is because your body requires several weeks of building up levels of each of the three ingredients in order to completely supplement its own reserves. While glucosamine and chondroitin both are generally believed to fairly well tolerated by most individuals, however, the hyaluronate compound appears to have effects on a small percentage of people that may include bloating, gas, nausea and cramping. These have been of varying degrees and the specific circumstances which may cause them to appear in each individual have not yet been determined. As some of the derivatives used to artificially create the ingredients are also manufactured from forms of shellfish it is recommended those with allergies or asthma consult a physician prior to taking Trigosamine. However, the majority of individuals who have tried the medication tout it as highly effective. With reports of persons with bone on bone contact being able to increase their daily ability to walk from almost nothing to up to 3 miles within a matter of months, and one subject even having reported experiencing pain relief in as little as 4 days, it is easy to see how Trigosamine could become an appealing, natural, alternative to many of today’s current joint pain medications.
